Is it possible to use a tankless hot water heater with a hot tub?

Maintenance Repairs 5 Comments »
Sassy OLD Broad asked:

The heater in our hot tub is not working. We would like to put in a natural gas dedicated hot water heater and wonder if a “tankless” model would work by just recycling the water? It would be a lot cheaper than buying a new hot tub heater. Plumbing not a problem…just don’t know if this would work. Thanks in advance.

Can a water heater be retrofitted with a drip pan after installation without removing the water heater unit?

MT asked:

I have heard of base-surround retrofit enclosures for a water heater but have not been able to find anyone that manufacturers or installs these types of systems. Anyone have any ideas of how to retrofit a water heater with a drip pan after it has been installed without removing the unit?

My hot water heater has a slow leak in it. The carpet is starting to get wet in front of the hot water heater. I live in a mobile home.
The hot water heater is only six or seven years old.

How long does the average hot water heater last before requiring replacement?

evanlouis15 asked:

We purchased our home 2 1/2 years ago. Current age of our hot water heater is 14 years. It is functioning fine, however, we are facing some other replacements in the house (i.e. new furnace), just wondering what a rule of thumb is on hot water heater life. Ours is an AO Smith brand, 40 gal capacity.-
Forgot to say, it is a gas heater. Thanks for all answers so far. All great.
