My family is remodeling the kitchen and they choose to place the gas cooktop right near the heater. Right now the heater is not on but when it does, is there going to be any safety issues? I feel uneasy watching a cooktop near a heater.

If every thing is installed according to code it should be OK.

when you get your cooktop, look in the instruction booklet, some where in there there should be a section that tells you about required clearances from any combustibles(i.e. heater)just MAKE SURE THAT ITS DONE TO CODE! and you should not have any problems……and one more thing, when you install the cook top, by code you need a shut off valve and most of the time the contractor puts the valve at the appliance, its a good idea to put one in the furnace room too because if the is a fire on your cook top, you wont want to be fooling around underneath your cooktop trying to shut the gas off. hope this helped…cheers
