First of all I would stick the heater in the corner and surround it with a tank divider, secondly I belive the temperature for sea horses is about eighty degrese f.

80 to 85 degrees F and u can buy covers that protect ur heater.. i have seahorses, i dont have my heater seperated at all..if u have ur reef set up right u should not have anything to worry about..secondly its like a cat that stands on a heater, if it gets to hot they will move..thirdly u say reef tank, i hope u did research, cause typically seahorses are not in a full coral set up. u have to watch what corals u put with it, and to have a balanced coral reef u need certain creatures, which could hinder ur seahorses. u also dont want a big aquarium, too big and it will be harder to keep the food in one area for ur seahorses..

I don’t think that they can be in a reef tank, not even live rock, there are organisims that can sting them and even kill them.

Put a small net over the heater *not touching it*
or put a seperater in the tank

Round about 80 degrees f should be OK for seahorses, at this temperature it is very unlikely that they will get burned if they attach to your heater, but if you are worried about that your local aquarium store will have heater guards, these are simply plastic sleeves with grid-like holes in it that just slips around your heater.
    Hope this helps you.
