I have asked several plumbers, suppliers and the manufacturers and they cannot tell me the difference other than it is what the sticker says for safety concerns. A regular water heater cost $100.00 less than a manufactured home water heater and I tell you is 100% identical. I have seen inside both units, so I need someone who really knows to answer.
compare prices at Home Depot a big difference. Nobody has given me an answer that I haven’t already checked on either. Remember the water heater manufacturers could only tell me that it is just what is said on the labels on the water heater. They could not say that there was really any difference. It aint the insullation either
I have had people tell me that there is more insullation or more windings or the gas chambers are different. And both water heaters discharge from the top.
Keep in mind we are talking about gas water heaters
Thanks Blondie….. I liked that info, I would pay the extra bucks for tankless.
Nobody has given me an answer on this yet. I mean with facts.
I live in Utah and have never seen a man. home water heater feed from the bottem…although that may be the case elswhere it is not here.

liability costs and some manufacturers use more insulation as manufactured homes sometimes require a zero clearance policy.

Regular waters feed from the top. Manufactured home water heaters feed from the bottom. Insulation is also a factor. Insurance companies look at this, so don’t cheat.

do you know the difference in cost is only because one says it is for a manufactured home as there is not any physical differences in water heaters other than some have water inlet outlerts on top some have them on the side…i am going to tell you at the wholesale level they cost exactly the same…the only real difference is the stickers that have more warnings on the ones for manufactured homes…

IN A NUT SHELL If it will fit use it. Some older mobile homes had 115v heaters with an on and off switch. If your’s is an old one but is 230. volts you might have to go with a wiring upgrade and a larger breaker. It might have had anywhere from a 9,000 to 15,000 watt elements. The smallest you will find now is a 38,000watt.in 230 volts.
Sorry about using the term mobile home. At least I didn’t call it a trailer.
