just me asked:

We have well water but when the water goes through the hot water heater it has a bad smell to it. Some one told me I needed to replace but I can’t remember what it is called.

I would think the tank is the problem. That is where the water sits the longest. I cannot imagine the water sits in any other part long enough to pick up any odor.

You might drain your tank a few times to see if that cleans out what is causing the odor.

what is happing is the well water smells to start with… this gets worst when it is heated up….what u need to do is install a water softner to correct this problem. the softner will eliminate the smell before going into your home.. thus no smell in hot water
