We are looking to buy a used gas pool heater, but want to use propane. I have read that you can easily buy a part and to convert it, but I don’t know if this is for ALL heaters. Its a 250,000 btu Hayward heater. Any help would be great.

The difference between a propane heater and a natural gas heater is the orifices for the gas to pass through. I don’t remember which type requires bigger orifices. But, the two gasses burn at different rates and temperatures. So, the burners need to have different sized holes for the gas to come out.
Try to locate a Hayward dealer and find out if they can get a new burner part for you. Or you can call a pool supply place and ask if they have propane conversion parts for heater burners.

Yes, there is a different valve for gas propane.
Thats all there is to it.
Your propane provider is the best source.
Let them change it out.
This should not be done by homeowner.
The heater you mention is a good heater.
Best if it has an electronic ignition.

You must change the gas valve and individual burner orifaces. On SOME models you may also have to change the ignition/control device too if it is an electronic heater.Call Hayward with your model number and serial number for exact information.
