We have one of those short 20 something gal water heaters and there is a small hole on the top(came that way) that you can see the insulation through. Well my cat just peed on top of the water heater and it went in that hole and shorted something out. What is up there electrically that blew and made a loud POP sound? Will the heater work when everything dries out?

I need to buy a new water heater and it has to be electric. The way I am reading the requirements to be eligible for a tax credit, the electric water heater has to have an Energy Factor of 2.0 or greater. I’m not finding any electric water heaters with an Energy Factor above 0.98 though. Any specific brands and model numbers of a qualifying electric water heater will be greatly appreciated.
I appreciate the answers. Thanks for your help.

I just bought a Tetra Aquatic Reptile heater for my turtle’s 20 gallon tank but it’s not seeming to heat the tank at all. It’s been plugged in and in there for almost 5 hrs and it doesn’t seem to be working yet. Has anyone had one of these before? And how quick did it start to work?

I have a heater for my acrylic tank and the surface doesn’t get hot. So, can I use one in my plastic tank?
Or do I need to add a heater? I have never had fish in the cold weather. My fish for my own personal tank have heaters to be ready for the winter months, but this is for a teen who has a fish for the first time. So, will the water actually get very cold if it is kept away from drafts?

I have a 12 gallon nano tank. The heater popped out of the glass encasement and made bubbling noises. I unplugged and removed it but there seems to be a black chemical in the tube of the heater. Also my anemone and all my coral shrunk and all my fish are in shock. Is it a chemical problem and do I need to replace the live rock and live sand?
